Positive Hack Talks in Jakarta: over 370 experts join a new cybersecurity meetup

Positive Technologies, an industry leader in result-driven cybersecurity, hosted an open event for cybersecurity professionals in Jakarta. The meetup attracted more than 370 participants, ranging from seasoned professionals to students and aspiring researchers. Speakers from India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Russia shared practical expertise and unique insights.

According to a study by Positive Technologies, 28% of advertisements on dark web forums in Southeast Asia are related to Indonesia, and 62% of all successful cyberattacks on organizations in this country lead to data breaches. From 2023 to 2024, cybercriminals primarily targeted manufacturing companies (31% of all attacks), followed by government agencies and financial companies (23% each).

The experts note that in recent years, Indonesia has taken major steps forward in strengthening its digital infrastructure and expanding digital literacy programs for the population. However, the rapid adoption of digital technologies in Indonesia, the region's largest country, highlights the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity measures.

"Achieving high cyber resilience for companies, industries, and nations depends heavily on the development of professional talent. Over the past year, we've partnered with leading Indonesian educational institutions to train new cybersecurity specialists and strengthen defenses for both the country and the region. The Jakarta meetup marks an important step in this effort."

"We're not just sharing knowledge—we're helping security professionals worldwide grow their skills and expertise. For us, this is more than an exchange of experience: it's part of our global cultural mission. Events like this build a strong community of experts who can tackle cyberthreats together—in Southeast Asia and beyond."

At Positive Hack Talks Jakarta, speakers addressed key cybersecurity topics through real-world examples. Alena Skliarova from Positive Technologies explained how attackers exploit Android Runtime Resource Overlay (RRO) to deceive users, while Jay Turla (VicOne) shared his experience organizing the Philippines' first Car Hacking Village. Participants also took the opportunity to network, connect with like-minded professionals, and engage in informal discussions with leading experts.

Positive Technologies launched its international meetup series in 2024. Cybersecurity events were held in Bengaluru in October, in Hanoi in November, and in Cairo in March 2025.

In May 2025, at the Positive Hack Days cybersecurity festival, the company signed cooperation agreements with four educational institutions in Indonesia, including Muhammadiyah Jakarta and Universitas NU NTB.
